Short Program—Transactions and Operations Performance. This presentation will provide current information and data on hotel transactions and performance.
Presenters:
Mark Lukens, Managing Director with LW Hospitality Advisors (LWHA)(Seattle, Washington). Mark has over 25 years of experience in hospitality real estate and holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute. LWHA provides advisory, valuation, feasibility, investment counseling, asset management, and transactional services focused exclusively on hotels, resorts, gaming properties, and conference center assets worldwide.
Centerpiece Program: Private Debt Funds. We all know about the main, national hotel lenders, such as national banks and other institutional lenders. We also know about regional banks and the brokers who access them. But what about the world of private debt funds? Find out about these lenders, who they are, how they are capitalized, what they bring to the table, and how to access them for your hotel project. Our panel will include four of the nation’s best-known private hotel lenders.
Panelists:
Mathew Crosswy, President, Stonehill (Atlanta, Georgia). Mat helped found and currently leads Stonehill, a hotel finance and equity platform that provides bridge loans, mezzanine loans, permanent loans and preferred equity, with an emphasis in deal origination and structure. In this role, he has successfully led Stonehill in the execution of more than $1 billion in transactions since the company’s beginnings in 2013. Prior to heading Stonehill, Mat was responsible for sourcing, negotiating and financing hotel investment opportunities for Peachtree Hotel Group, one of the nation’s fastest growing hotel investment and management platforms. He served as a liaison for debt relationships across all types of financial and equity market participants. In this position, he sourced, arranged and placed over $600 million in deals.
Felix Gutnikov, Principal, EVP – Origination, Thorofare Capital, Inc. (Los Angeles, California). Felix is a principal and the Executive Vice President of Origination at Thorofare Capital. Since joining the firm in 2012, Felix has helped execute the firm’s national debt investment strategies, including Thorofare Capital’s series of private debt funds and its origination and servicing strategic partnership with an institutional investor. Felix is principally responsible for originating new transactions, providing credit analysis and working with the asset management team to track investments from their initial funding to their ultimate realization. Thorofare is a leading commercial real estate loan origination and servicing company. Its affiliate, Thorofare LLC, is an SEC Registered Investment Adviser specializing in alternative fixed-income opportunities through US commercial real estate debt investments. With a national presence, Thorofare has invested more than $1.38 billion of equity capital, structured as senior secured short-term loans, across 10+ property types throughout 28 States.
Russell Munn, Managing Director – Hospitality, Lowe Enterprises Investors (Los Angeles, California). Russell leads LEI’s hospitality investment activities. He is responsible for development and implementation of hospitality investment strategies, including high-yield senior and subordinate debt programs. He also plays a key role in capital formation and investment strategy for the firm’s hotel equity and structured finance clients. Previously, Mr. Munn was responsible for hotel acquisitions and capital raising for a large, private hotel owner, was a Director with Citigroup Investment Banking, and a Vice President at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. LEI manages in excess of $2.5 billion of investments on behalf of clients, including public pension funds, insurance companies, international institutions, and high net worth investors.
Tara Waldier, Vice President, Rockbridge Capital (Columbus, Ohio). As Vice President of Rockbridge Capital, Tara originates, underwrites, and structures new investments, with a focus on debt investments. She also leads Rockbridge’s refinance efforts for its existing portfolio of assets and manages first mortgage lender relationships. Since joining the firm in 2008, Tara has also contributed to the firm’s Investment, Assent Management, and Investor Relations teams. Rockbridge Capital is an investment platform with nearly two decades of experience investing in real estate and operating companies. It has made over 200 investments in 38 states in transactions worth approximately $5 billion.

Irvin Sandman, Attorney – Counselor, Sandman Savrann PLLC (Seattle, WA).
Sandman Savrann is a national law firm devoted exclusively to providing comprehensive legal counsel to the hospitality industry. Irv has served as lead counsel for hotel clients in thousands of hotel matters and transactions regionally, nationally and internationally, including hotel developments, acquisitions and dispositions, financial and entity structuring, management and franchise agreements, operational matters, and dispute resolution. He is the 2008 recipient of the Anthony Marshall Award for lasting contributions to hospitality law, a past president of the Hospitality Industry Bar Association, and editor-in-chief of the Washington State Hospitality Law Manual, Third Edition.

Registration is open only to Members of NHIF and to NHIF’s invited guests. Early registration (through Thursday, October 7, 2016) is $65; later registration is $80. Early registration is recommended.
