The Northwest Hotel Investment Forum is a place where:
- Stakeholders learn about trends affecting hotel investment, ownership and development;
- Equity, debt, management and developers find each other;
- Stakeholders learn about opportunities in the region and elsewhere; and
- Investors, owners and developers who are new to hotels make industry connections.

Short Program—Let’s Do the Numbers. Mark Lukens of HREC will provide concise information about YTD hotel industry performance.
Centerpiece Program: “Meet the Brands.” Development executives from major national brands will discuss their brands and what they are currently offering and doing to help spur development and repositioning. Learn what is “market” for terms such as key money, financial enhancements, ranges for fees, and areas of flexibility. Participate in the Q and A.
Panelists:
Tiffany Cooper, Senior Director, Development West, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (Phoenix, Arizona). Tiffany leads Starwood’s franchise development activities for California, Oregon and Washington for both select and full service brands, including aloft, element, Four Points by Sheraton, Le Meridien, Westin, The Luxury Collection, and Sheraton. She is responsible for sourcing potential new build and conversion opportunities, connects hotel developers and third party operators, and negotiates the agreements for franchise opportunities. Tiffany has over 17 years experience in the hotel industry, including positions with Kimpton and Carlson.
Chris Ivy, Senior Vice President, Development, Hyatt Corporation (Chicago, Illinois). Chris oversees all development for Hyatt’s select service and extended stay hotel brands. His twenty years in the hotel industry includes both operations and development roles, including positions with Marriott, Westin, Sheraton and Hilton.
Ed Shaw, Regional Director of Development, InterContinental Hotels Group (Portland, Oregon). Ed is responsible for the development of the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites brands in the Western U.S. He has been with IHG for 10 years. Before joining IHG, Ed was a regional vice president for Choice Hotels for 14 years, was president of a management company in San Diego, and was a consultant with Laventhol & Horwath.
Tye Turman, Senior Vice President Lodging Development, Western Region, Marriott International (San Antonio, Texas). Tye has been Marriott’s Senior Vice President Lodging Development for the Western Region since July 2011. His previous positions at Marriott include Area Vice President Lodging Development for seven Western states, and Regional Senior Director of Operations for the Western Region. Tye joined Marriott in 1986 and has held a wide range of property, regional and corporate positions.
Matt Wehling, Vice President & Managing Director – Development, Hilton Worldwide (Chicago, Illinois). As Managing Director, Matt oversees Hilton’s development team for all brands across 21 Western and Central U.S. states. He addresses development opportunities with current and potential partners to ensure the strategic expansion of Hilton Worldwide’s portfolio. Matt’s twenty years of experience in the hotel industry includes ten years with Hilton, as well as previous positions with HFS, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and Red Roof Inns.
Moderator:
Irvin Sandman, Attorney – Counselor, Sandman Savrann PLLC (Seattle, WA). Sandman Savrann is devoted exclusively to providing comprehensive, first-choice legal counsel to the hospitality industry. Irv has served as lead counsel in hundreds of hotel ventures, transactions, restructurings and controversies worldwide and is a frequent speaker, panelist and writer on hospitality topics. He is the 2008 recipient of the Anthony Marshall Award for lasting contributions to hospitality law.
