Centerpiece Program: “Hotel Conversions and Adaptive Reuse”. The post-COVID work-from-home phenomenon, severe changes in the capital markets, and other unprecedented trends have caused dislocations and disruptions in many markets. These paradigm shifts have impacted values, but they also present opportunities for conversions and adaptive reuse. Our national-level panel will discuss where things are, where they are going, and how to “skate to where the puck is going to be.”

Kimo Bertram, Vice President Development, Hyatt Hotels Corporation (San Francisco, CA). Kimo is responsible for overseeing Hyatt’s expansion efforts for full-service brands in 12 western United States and Hawaii. With over 20 years of experience in the Hotel industry, he has added full service, luxury and lifestyle hotel rooms for two large global hospitality companies through acquisitions, management agreements, and franchise agreements. Kimo’s expertise includes extensive experience with capital structures, having been involved in over $6B in real estate development and deployed over $850MM in equity, preferred equity, mezzanine debt, debt guarantees, and key money. Before Hyatt, Kimo held leadership positions at Hilton Hotels and PKF Consulting. Hyatt has a 67 year history of hospitality innovation and leadership. Eric Jacobs, Chief Global Growth Officer, Aimbridge Hospitality (Plano, TX). As Aimbridge’s Chief Global Growth Officer, Eric is responsible for the company’s global growth pursuits and empowering Aimbridge’s business development teams to fuel the company’s expansion goals domestically and abroad. Eric has over 35 years of multi-brand hospitality experience. Before Aimbridge, Eric was most recently Chief Development Officer, North America at Marriott, where he led the growth strategy and execution for 10 different brands, adding close to 2,400 hotels and 264,000 rooms to the Marriott system. His development background also includes roles at Tarsadia Hotels, Hilton, and IHG. Eric is a board member of Extreme Response International, board member of ECPAT- USA (PACT), and coach for Leader Mundial, a leading non-profit that aims to position leaders and organizations for greater global impact. Aimbridge is one of the largest worldwide management companies. Robert D. Kline, CEO and Co-Founder, Chartres Lodging Group, LLC (San Francisco, CA). Rob co-founded Chartres Lodging Group in 2002. Since then, he has been involved in all aspects of the company’s strategic direction, selection of asset opportunities, investments, investor relationships, and asset repositioning, and has invested over $10 billion of capital on his own behalf and on behalf of Chartres’s select group of private investors and institutional funds. He is recognized in the lodging industry as a proactive turnaround investor and a leading asset manager. Since graduating from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration in 1984, he has led over $15 billion in transactional activity. Before co-founding Chartres, he held leadership positions at The Yarmouth Group/Lend Lease, where he pioneered the establishment of its lodging investment and asset management advisory practice, and at Strategic Hotel Capital, where he oversaw the purchase of $2 billion of luxury hotels across three countries. Mr. Kline serves on the boards of Cornell’s the Dean’s Advisory Board, AH&LA, WildCare of the Bay Area, and as founding member of the Hot Springs Association. He is also a Co-Founder of the Hotel Asset Managers Association. Chartres Lodging Group serves as a principal partner and advisor for strategic institutional and select private lodging investors. Rick Takach, Jr., Chairman and CEO, Vesta Hospitality (Vancouver, WA). Rick founded Vesta Hospitality in 1996. With more than 40 years of experience in the hotel industry, Rick has earned a reputation for attracting and retaining talented hospitality industry professionals who in turn create profitable hotels with outstanding customer satisfaction. Before founding Vesta Hospitality, Rick served as Regional Manager for the Marriott Corporation in Bethesda, Maryland, and spent seven years as Executive Vice President of Dimension Development Company. Rick has served as Chairman of the Owner’s Association for InterContinental Hotels Group, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Region, Chairman of the Responsible Business Committee, and member of the Hilton Hotels Owners’ Advisory Council. Rick currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association, the Board of Directors for the American Hotel and Lodging Association, and as President of the PeaceHealth Southwest.
