The performance and expansion of the extended-stay hotel segment over the last five years have been astonishing. This national-level panel will focus on all things bearing on investment in and the future of these hotels and brands.

Irvin Sandman, Principal – Attorney, Sandman Savrann PLLC (Seattle, WA). With over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Irvin has served as lead counsel for hotel clients in thousands of hotel matters and transactions regionally, nationally and internationally, including hotel developments, acquisitions and dispositions, financial and entity structuring, management and franchise agreements, operational matters, and dispute resolution. He is the 2008 recipient of the Anthony Marshall Award for lasting contributions to hospitality law, is the editor-in-chief of the Washington State Hospitality Law Manual, Third Edition, and is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® in the category of Leisure and Hospitality Law. Rick Colling, Global Leader, Homewood Suites by Hilton (Memphis, TN). A 20-year veteran of Hilton, Rick is responsible for overseeing and executing Homewood’s brand strategies and programs to maximize top line performance and drive bottom line profitability. Before leading the Homewood brand, Rick served as Vice President of Brand Performance Support for the All Suites brand category, comprised of Embassy Suites by Hilton, Homewood Suites by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton. Additionally, he led the restructuring of the Brand Performance Support team to provide real time, relevant support based on asset cycles. www.hilton.com.
Ian McClure, CEO, Gulf Coast Hotel Development, LLC (Dallas, TX). As Gulf Coast’s CEO, Ian oversees and directs the company’s group of affiliated real estate development and management companies with assets in fourteen states and employing approximately 450 associates. Ian has more than 15 years of development and management experience within the extended stay segment. He has built a portfolio of 40+ extended stay assets and is currently developing 30 Echo Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham hotels in Texas, Florida and Colorado. In addition to his extended stay hospitality experience, Ian is a principal in other real estate development, manufacturing, and service companies.
Mike Nielson, CEO of West77 Partners and LivAway Suites™ (Bellevue, WA and Salt Lake City, UT). For West77 Partners, Mike oversees the company’s acquisitions and development initiatives. Mike also oversees structured financing and capitalization for the company’s real estate projects. As LivAway’s CEO and primary creative force, Mike has led all aspects of the development of LivAway Suites, a new, economy, extended-stay brand, designed for developers, by developers tm. Mike has worked in real estate for over 25 years and specifically in hospitality for the past decade. Prior to forming West77 Partners and LivAway Suites™, Mike served as President of Wasatch Group, a Salt Lake City based real estate investment firm with over $4 Billion in assets under management. Mike is a member of the Utah Bar and is a licensed real estate broker in Utah. Currently the focus of West77 Partners and LivAway Suites™ is to grow the LivAway Suites™ portfolio nationally through active real estate development. LivAway Suites has 15 locations in current development with another 20 sites in the pipeline expected to break ground over the next 18 months. Mark Skinner, Partner, The Highland Group (Atlanta, GA). Mark has been in the hotel business with The Highland Group for 30 years. He and his firm offer investment advice on hotels in all segments of the hotel industry. They have specialized, in particular, in extended-stay hotels for the last 25 years, covering most primary and secondary markets in the US, Canada, and three European countries. Since 1998, their services have included monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the extended stay segment.
