Short Program—Transaction Update. Mark Lukens of HREC will provide an update on recent hotel sales in the region, as well as new hotel developments that are currently in the pipeline. HREC is the nation’s premier real estate advisory and brokerage organization specializing exclusively in the lodging and gaming industries. Mark is in charge of HREC’s Seattle office. He has 25 years of experience in hospitality real estate and holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.

Panelists:
Annie Chen, Development Director, The Leading Hotels of the World (New York, NY). Annie is LHW’s development director of membership. She oversees and directs all aspects of acquiring new member hotels for the company. Annie joined the company in 2007. Before her appointment to her current position, she served as business development manager for The Private Label Company, LLC, a joint venture between The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. and Trust International.
Rob Cornell, SVP Development, Preferred Hotel Group (Chicago, IL). Rob is Senior Vice President of Business Development for Preferred Hotel Group. From 2002 to 2004 he served as Managing Director of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts brand. A recognized expert in Quality Assurance, he also directs the company’s award-winning Global Standards of Excellence™ quality assurance program. In 2006 he was instrumental in the development of Preferred Residences a new luxury residential brand, and in 2007 led the acquisition team for Historic Hotels of America.
Joe Dreiske, Director of Membership Development for Ascend Hotel Collection, Choice Hotels International (Irving, TX). Joe oversees all membership development for the Ascend collection in the western U.S. His 25 years in the industry encompasses all aspects of the hospitality industry, including management, operations, finance and acquisitions, design and development, ownership, and corporate franchising.
Tom Magnuson, CEO, Magnuson Worldwide (Spokane, WA and London, UK). Tom is co-founder and CEO of Magnuson Worldwide. The company’s holdings include Global Hotel Exchange, PMS, CRS1 and Magnuson Hotels. The company currently represents almost 2,000 hotels. Magnuson also focuses on free and low cost marketing and distribution to worldwide reservation networks and provides services for approximately 120,000 hotels worldwide.
Chris Rose, SVP, Lodging Development, Marriott International (Newport Beach, CA). Chris promotes Marriott’s development efforts in the Western U.S. for all full-service brands, including the Autograph Collection. Mr. Rose has worked in this capacity since 2005. Prior to that he was Vice President of Full Service Development for the Central Region and before that was responsible for Select Service Development for Marriott’s South Central Region. In total, Mr. Rose has been developing hotels for Marriott since 1994 and has been the lead developer on more than 150 properties.

Irvin Sandman, Attorney – Counselor, Sandman Savrann PLLC (Seattle, WA). Sandman Savrann is a national law firm devoted exclusively to providing comprehensive legal counsel to the hospitality industry. Irv has counseled hotel clients in thousands of hotel matters, including hotel development, entity formation and structuring, acquisitions and dispositions, management and franchise agreements, and dispute resolution. He is the 2008 recipient of the Anthony Marshall Award for lasting contributions to hospitality law, the past president of the Hospitality Industry Bar Association, and editor-in-chief of the Washington State Hospitality Law Manual, Third Edition .
