5:00-6:15 pm – Presentation and Panel Discussion
Short Program—Transaction Update. Mark Lukens of HREC will provide an update on recent hotel sales in the region, as well as new hotel developments that are currently in the pipeline. HREC is the nation’s premier real estate advisory and brokerage organization specializing exclusively in the lodging and gaming industries. Mark is in charge of HREC’s Seattle office. He has 25 years of experience in hospitality real estate and holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.
Centerpiece Program: “Hotel Equity.” Executives from major equity investment companies will discuss their strategic objectives, geographic and segment targets, brand preferences, return parameters, and other expectations. We will also benefit from an investment banker’s perspective on current capital markets.
Panelists:
Ryan Cotton, Principal, Bain Capital, (Boston, MA). Bain Capital has approximately $65 billion in assets under management. It acquires assets and generates industry leading returns for endowments, foundations, pension funds and individuals. Ryan joined Bain Capital in 2003. He leads Bain Capital’s real estate investment efforts. He currently serves on the board of International Market Centers. Prior to joining the Bain, Ryan was a consultant at Bain & Company.
Jack vanHartesvelt, Director of Hospitality Platform, A&M Capital Real Estate (Los Angeles, CA). A&M Capital is the private real estate investment and asset management firm affiliated with the global professional services firm of Alvarez & Marsal (A&M). It was established in 2008 as part of A&M’s continuing expansion of its core platform and in recognition of significant opportunities in underperforming real estate. Jack joined A&M Capital Real Estate in 2010 to oversee its hospitality platform. He has more than 35 years of experience in all phases of hospitality, including acquisitions, finance, franchising, design and construction, operations oversight and dispositions.
Stephen Duffy, Managing Director, Moss Adams Capital (Irvine, CA). Moss Adams Capital is an investment banking firm. Steve, who leads the company, has over 27 years of real estate, consulting and capital markets experience across the capital stack, both domestically and internationally.
Moderator:
Irvin Sandman, Attorney – Counselor, Sandman Savrann PLLC (Seattle, WA). Sandman Savrann is devoted exclusively to providing comprehensive, first-choice legal counsel to the hospitality industry. Irv has served as counsel in thousands of hotel ventures, transactions, restructurings and controversies worldwide and is a frequent speaker, panelist and writer on hospitality topics. He is the 2008 recipient of the Anthony Marshall Award for lasting contributions to hospitality law.
